Valeria Mancinelli (born March 13, 1955 in Ancona ) is an Italian politician of the Partito Democratico . She has been the mayor of the port city of Ancona since 2013.

education and profession

Mancinelli graduated from Macerata University with a degree in law from which she graduated in 1986. The following year she started working at the Riccardo Stecconi law firm in Ancona, where she became a partner in 1992. She specializes in civil and administrative law, reform of government agencies and public companies.

politics

As a 28-year-old Mancinelli became an assessor for social affairs and the environment in Ancona. She held this position for two years. She was particularly committed to the establishment of the Parco Regional del Conero nature park (founded in 1987).

In June 2013 she was elected mayor of Ancona as a candidate for a center-left alliance made up of the PD, Greens , UdC and Scelta Civica with 37.65% of the votes in the first ballot and 62.59% in the runoff election. She is the first woman in this position. In 2018 she was confirmed in office with 48% of the votes in the first and 62.8% in the second ballot.

She also received the World Mayor award in 2018 . The jury based the decision on Ancona's strong economic development since Mancinelli took office, which is based on close cooperation between the private and public sectors. In addition, their public communication, which also addresses problems openly, was praised as exemplary.
