Values painting
Valeurmalerei , also known as tone-on-tone painting in oil painting , is a technique used in painting . In value painting, fine gradations ( tonal values , values ) of one or more related colors within an image (light-dark contrasts ) outweigh strong color contrasts. The colors merge.
The technical term occurs mainly in descriptions of impressionist paintings.
