Valiant Shield
Valiant Shield was a large-scale exercise by the United States Armed Forces that took place in the Pacific Ocean in the region of Guam Island in 2006, 2007 and 2010 . Participants were forces from the Navy , Air Force , Marine Corps and Coast Guard . The exercise was intended to improve cooperation between the armed forces.

2006
Valiant Shield 2006 took place from June 19th to 23rd. A total of around 22,000 soldiers from the various branches of the armed forces took part in the exercise. The Navy was involved with three aircraft carrier combat groups around the carriers USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) , USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) , a total of around 30 ships. The Air Force and Marine Corps deployed 280 aircraft, and the Coast Guard took part with a cutter.
The People's Republic of China was invited as an observer for the first time in a large US exercise , which then assigned 10 officers to the observer staff. The invitation was Admiral William J. Fallon , former commander of the United States Pacific Command , exceptionally, to improve military relations between the two countries since the collision of an American reconnaissance plane and a Chinese Shenyang J-8 near the island of Hainan on were at a low point. Six other countries bordering the Pacific also sent observers to the maneuver.
2007
Valiant Shield , originally planned as a biennial exercise, also took place in 2007, this time from August 7th to 14th. The participation was numerically the same as in 2006, again three aircraft carriers were involved, in addition to the Kitty Hawk this time USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) and USS Nimitz (CVN 68) .
2010
In September 2010, Valiant Shield took place between Palau and Guam. Participants were the combat groups around the USS Essex (LHD-2) and USS George Washington (CVN-73) .
