Vanilia is a fashion brand of Vanilia Fashion GmbH based in Neuss . The company has specialized in women's trousers. In the 1980s , the mostly pastel-colored Vanilia trousers achieved a special cult status among young people. The company was a fashion trendsetter at the time and one of the leading providers in this field.

history

The company was founded in May 1980 by Heinz Consul and his wife Yvonne in Neuss. However, development and production takes place in Italy .

Since the 1990s it has only been aimed at women. The range has been expanded to include tops and accessories and is more in the more elegant area. The target group initially consisted of adolescents and young adults of both sexes. The first models were carrot pants made of cotton, which were cut wide at the top and were usually worn with a wide studded belt. They were tighter at the ankle and white sports socks were often pulled over the ends of the legs. There were patch pockets on the sides, just like today's cargo pants . In addition to the brand name and the logo of an ice cream cone, the label also bore the year of the respective collection, so that a new one should be bought every year. The price was around 120 DM at the time. The brand is sometimes incorrectly called Vanilla.

Before the well-known break-dance model, the Golda model was created , the first model with attached side pockets. 8 million of them were sold in 8 years.

In addition to plain black, white, dark gray, red and brown, the colors available were mainly light pastel tones such as light gray, light beige, light blue, pink and light yellow. The pants were particularly popular in the youth culture of the popper .

In 2001 the company achieved a turnover of 35 million euros with 60 employees. However, attempts are being made to return to the market leadership from the 1980s. There are foreign representations in 17 countries; there is no own branch network.

Vanilia should not be confused with the Dutch fashion chain of the same name or the Vanilla Star Jeans.
