The Varcoe Headland is a headland up to 34 m high in the west of the Antarctic Ross Island . It marks the northern limit of the entrance to Horseshoe Bay .
The New Zealand Geographic Board named it after Garth Edwin Varcoe (1943-1992), who had worked for 15 years in the New Zealand Antarctic Research Program, among other things, in the renovation of Scott Base , before he was not far from this headland on October 31, 1992 in a helicopter crash was killed.
