Vardøya is an island in the municipality Vardø in Norwegian Fylke Troms og Finnmark . It is separated from the mainland by the Bussesundet . Most of Vardø's population lives on the island.

Vardøya may originally consist of two former islands, which in the Middle Ages were connected by a narrow link near the town hall called "Valen" .

The island stretches from Skagen in the north to Steilneset in the south, where the Vardø tunnel ends from the mainland. North of the Valen are the landing stage of the Hurtigruten as well as the fortress pier in the west and the Vestervågsmole in the east. South is the fortress Vardøhus .

On the smaller eastern part of the island Austøya lies the Vårberget ridge, on which a Norwegian air force station has been located in a restricted area since 1952 . The northern bay of Austøya is called Vestervågen, the southern bay is called Østervågen.
