Varino is a Portuguese , historical type of sailboat made of wood, which is mainly found on the Tagus .

description

The ship has a round bow with a raised stem and a flat stern with an external rudder and tiller steering . The flat hull has neither a sword nor an outer sword and only an insignificant keel . The mast, inclined slightly aft, carries a gaff sail and two staysails . The external dimensions are on average 19.5 m in length, 5.4 m in width and 2.05 m in draft . The ships are painted in a folkloric way.

The center of boat building was and is Seixal , who also have this type of ship in their municipal coat of arms . There is a ship museum in the village, which keeps the tradition alive and whose budget in 2009 was almost 500,000 euros.
