Varlaam Merticariu
Varlaam Merticariu (born October 28, 1960 in the community Știubieni , Botoşani district ) is a Romanian Orthodox theologian and auxiliary bishop .
He was archimandrite and lecturer at the Orthodox Theological Faculty of the University "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" in Iași . He was vicar administrativ of the Archdiocese of Iași and was awarded the Moldavian Cross on October 11, 2007. On October 29, 2009 he was elected by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church as auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Bucharest. The call to the office of bishop took place on December 19, 2009 and the ordination to the episcopate on December 20, 2009.
