Vasagård-anlæg (Vasagard systems) originated at the beginning of the 3rd millennium BC. BC, in the soft patch of the Danish island of Bornholm . They are named after the Vasagård complex on Bornholm. There are also systems of this type on Bornholm in Rispebjerg and Ndr. Grødbygård (discovered in 1988), in Skåne near Hunneberget (where evidence of a “sacrificial site” was first established) and in Helgeshøj and Sigersted on the island of Zealand , where the TBK lasted longer.

The funnel beaker culture (TBK) ends in 2800 BC. The earthworks of the Sarup type go out of use and the construction of dolmens is discontinued. This marks the beginning of a new culture and its religious ceremonies. The use of stone graves continues on Bornholm, while new forms of burial are emerging in large parts of the rest of Denmark and other parts of the TBK area. The production of the specific, finely decorated grave ceramics found in the large stone graves ends.

Instead of round earthworks, large squares and circles (Rispebjerg) are built from piles, which are enclosed by palisades, which resemble English woodhenges . With the establishment of the battle ax culture , the Woodhenges disappeared from around 2700 BC. Chr. Completely. In several locations, however, palisade-tended areas have been found without the long stakes that have the character of fortifications. They were found at three locations near Malmö in Skåne. Bunkeflostrand, Skjutbanorna or Annetorpleden and Dösjebro. A similar facility is located in Kignæsbakke on Frederikssund. As happened with the Sarup plants, new “Vasagårds-anlæg” will also be discovered in southern Scandinavia in the future.

Sunstones

In 2017, more “sun stones ” ( Solsten in Danish ) were discovered in Vasagård . The small stones covered with motifs were carved by Stone Age people 5000 years ago. The approximately 300 stones and fragments found on the island get their name from their round shape and the carvings on their surface that seem to radiate from the center. There are also square stones decorated with other patterns. Some are decorated with cobwebs. Over the years a number of sunstones measuring approximately 2 inches (5.0 cm) have been found. The first was found in 1995 at Rispebjerg , about 8.0 km east of Vasagård.

Individual evidence

  1. The circles of woodhenges on Rispebjerg were used for ritual acts, the exact purpose of which is unknown. The posts support a mud-covered platform on which fires burned. Two rows of posts led up to two of the henges. Parts of the system on Rispebjerg were reconstructed on site
  2. In the Dithmarschen Stone Age Park there is a replica of a Stone Age sacrificial site from around 3,200 BC. On the basis of the unique archaeological findings of Hunneberget in southern Sweden
