2 pipes from Vauen

VAUEN is the oldest and largest German pipe factory based in Nuremberg . The name VAUEN was derived from the letters V (spoken: Vau) for "United Pipe Factory" and N (spoken: En) for "Nuremberg". The company was founded in 1848 . In 1934, the company introduced the 9 mm activated carbon filters that are common today . About 95% of all pipes sold in Germany are designed for the use of 9 mm filters.

The typical trademark of the pipes is the white point on the mouthpiece of the higher quality pipe series, which has been around since 1911. In the 1920s, the company conducted a lengthy process with Dunhill to use the white dot , who also put such a dot on the mouthpieces of their pipes and still do so today. Vauen has lost this process and is only allowed to use the white point on pipes sold in Germany; the pipes for export have a gray dot.

In addition to pipes and the famous filters, the company also produces pipe tobacco and smoking accessories and, in the past, table skittles.

The last success of the manufacturer was the acquisition of a license for the original tobacco pipes from the story " The Lord of the Rings ".

The company is also building a pipe designed to appeal to young pipe smokers. It is the model [pipoo] - a small wedge-shaped pipe, in which only specially made tobacco portions should be smoked.

Most of the pipes produced by the company are prefabricated on copy milling machines and finished by hand. A small noble series ("Solitaire") is completely handmade.

history

The first German pipe manufacturer was founded in 1848 by Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener . Until then, both turners were in Nuremberg. With their wooden tobacco pipes they offered a more stable alternative to the clay pipes that had been widespread until then. In 1866 the Gebhard Ott pipe factory was founded, also in Nuremberg . In 1901, both manufacturers merged to form the United Pipe Factory Nuremberg (VPFN). In 1909 Adolf Eckert renamed the company, the current name was created: VAUEN.

Before the Second World War, the export business flourished, especially to North America. The Nazi regime later forbids the export of the pipes. The company's production facilities are destroyed in the bombing raids on Nuremberg. However, production continues and will be rebuilt after the war.

The company's products have been awarded several gold medals at world exhibitions.
