The Vauréal Peak is a 200 m high mountain on King George Iceland in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It rises on the east side of the entrance to Admiralty Bay .
Participants of the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition (1908-1910) under the direction of polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot named an object in this area as Cap Vauréal . Later aerial photographs showed that the most distinctive landmark is the mountain described here. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee then changed the name on July 7, 1959. It is probably named after the French municipality of Vauréal , in which a street is named after Charcot's father, the physician Jean-Martin Charcot .
