Vealøs is an island in the Oslofjord near Karljohansvern in the municipality of Horten in the province of Vestfold og Telemark , Norway , about 80 km south of Oslo .
It has an area of about 0.1 square kilometers and is connected to Karljohansvern and Horten by a bridge. The island is owned by the Norwegian military . The largest facility on the island is the fortress " Norske Løve ", which was built from 1852 to 1859. With the increasing use of HE shells at this time, however, with its almost medieval fortifications, it was already out of date before its completion. However, it is still used by the navy and the island serves as a base for motor torpedo boats .
