Veerse Gatdam

The Veerse Gatdam is a dam structure on the Dutch North Sea coast . It was part of the Three Islands Plan , was built as part of the Delta Works protection system and was ceremonially closed on April 27, 1961, in the presence of Queen Juliana.

The dam in the coastal province of Zeeland closes the former Veerse Gat arm from the open North Sea, creating the Veerse Meer . On the east side, the water is connected to the Oosterschelde via the Zandkreek .

The dam is 2.8 km long, 14 m NAP high and results from the peninsula Walcheren to the island of North Beveland . Rijksweg 57 leads over the Veerse Gatdam . The top of the dam is popular with skaters, cyclists and walkers.
