Hüseyin Vehbi Kocagüney (* 1881 in Erzurum (according to other information: Van ); † May 7, 1950 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish major general of the army (Türk Kara Kuvvetleri) , military historian and politician of the Republican People's Party CHP ( Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi ) , the among others from 1946 until his death member of the Grand National Assembly TBMM (Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi) .

Life

After attending school, Kocagüney completed an officer training course, which he completed in 1898. He then served as an officer in the army of the Ottoman Empire and was deployed in the First World War . He took part in the Turkish Liberation War as a major (Binbaşı) between 1920 and 1923 . There Kocagüney was commander of the 25th Heavy Artillery Regiment on the Western Front during the Greco-Turkish War . For his services at the time, he was awarded the Medal of Independence ( İstiklâl Madalyası ). After the founding of the Republic of Turkey on October 29, 1923, he was accepted into the army and finally promoted to major general (Tümgeneral) . In 1942 he retired.

In the election of August 5, 1946 , Kocagüney was elected as a candidate of the Republican People's Party CHP ( Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi ) by İsmet İnönü as a member of the Grand National Assembly TBMM (Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi) and represented it until his death on May 7, 1950 , so just a week before the May 7, 1950 election, the interests of Erzurum. He was married and had four children.

In addition to his military and political activities, Kocagüney also wrote several books on military history in which he partly processed his own experiences in an autobiographical manner. His books include:
