Violet polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The violet polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 132). The work was performed for the first time on May 1, 1853 in the Zum Sperl dance hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The polka was composed on the occasion of a spring festival in the Zum Sperlbauer dance hall and premiered there. Later it was somewhat forgotten and was rarely performed, if at all. This was also due to the fact that the composer's many compositions sometimes displaced each other from the concert schedule. There was simply an oversupply of such works.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 37 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
