Velázquez is a small town in Uruguay .

geography

It is located in the Rocha department south of the Embalse de la India Muerta reservoir . The Sierra de la India Muerta extends to the south of the village , while the Cuchilla de Spalato is located to the east . In the west, the local area of ​​Velázquez is initially bounded by the Diamante brook running there and by the latter from its confluence with the Arroyo Sarandí de la Paloma . To the east of the village, the Arroyo de las Espinas flows a few kilometers away and , north of the village, forms the Arroyo de la India Muerta together with the Arroyo Sarandí de la Paloma .

history

On October 28, 1919, Velázquez was initially classified in the "Pueblo" category by law no. 7019, before being classified as a " villa " on July 1, 1953 under legal regulation no. 11965.
