Vele is a village in the Kingdom of Alo , which belongs to France as part of the French overseas territory of Wallis and Futuna .

location

The village is located in the extreme southeast of the island of Futuna , across from Alofi . Both islands belong to the Horn Islands . Vele is the only airport on the island, Futuna Airport. From there, scheduled flight connections to Wallis-Hihifo Airport are offered.

population

While in 2003 there were still 303 inhabitants and in 2008 280 inhabitants lived in Vele, the number of inhabitants in 2013 was only 211 people. Thus, as in the rest of Wallis and Futuna, the population is declining. Much of the younger population emigrates to New Caledonia .
