Venceslau Brás
Venceslau Brás Pereira Gomes (born February 26, 1868 in São Caetano da Vargem , Minas Gerais ; † May 15, 1966 in Itajubá , Minas Gerais) was a Brazilian politician and from November 15, 1914 to November 15, 1918 the ninth President of Brazil . He belonged to the Partido Republicano Mineiro (PRM).
Life
Venceslau Brás was the son of a politician from Minas Gerais. He studied law in São Paulo and graduated in December 1890. From April 3, 1909 to September 7, 1910, he was governor of the state of Minas Gerais. From November 15, 1910 to November 15, 1914 he was Vice President under Hermes Rodrigues da Fonseca . He declared war on the German Reich in 1917 during the First World War, after the German navy sank Brazilian ships.
Venceslau Brás was the longest living Brazilian president and was 98 years old.
