Venus figurines from Petersfels

The Venus figurines from Petersfels are several Stone Age depictions of the female body. The figurines mostly consist of gagat . The Petersfels is a cave with a forecourt in the Brudertal near Engen , Baden-Württemberg . The figurines were excavated by Eduard Peters and Volker Toepfer in 1927–1932 and by Gerd Albrecht in 1974–1976 and 1978. The age of the figurines is given as 15000 to 11500 years; they come from the Magdalenian . The figurines are between 1.5 and 4 cm long. Most of them are in the museums of Freiburg im Breisgau and Engen. The largest of these figures is also called Venus von Engen .
