tasks and goals
Quality, safety and qualification for hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO)
The association defines uniform quality and safety standards for pressure chamber technology, the treatment schemes to be used and personnel qualification. In doing so, it is based on the resolutions of the medical and scientific specialist societies, in particular the Society for Diving and Overpressure Medicine e. V. (GTÜM eV). Upon joining the association, the member chambers of the VDD undertake to comply with the standards for staff training and further education, technical equipment, maintenance and inspection of the pressure chambers according to MedGV and TÜV as well as compliance with the treatment specifications for the respective indications.
Research on hyperbaric oxygen therapy
The association supports research in the field of hyperbaric medicine by providing human, material and financial resources.
Information and exchange of experience on the international application of HBO therapy
The association maintains and maintains contacts with national and international specialist associations in hyperbaric medicine. Its resolutions should be in consensus with these specialist societies. The VDD represents the interests of its members in the GTÜM and the European specialist societies for hyperbaric medicine (ECHM, EUBS).
Public relations for hyperbaric oxygen therapy in Germany
The association is the only institution in Germany that deals with the establishment of the HBO and is known and accepted as a point of contact by sponsors, authorities and government agencies. The association works actively and comprehensively for urgently needed improvements to the situation of the HBO in Germany. The association operates its own national press work on topics and indications of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. It informs the public via the association's homepage and provides journalists with experts on questions and areas of application of the HBO. The association is the contact person for those seeking help via a free hotline.
