Association of Hanoverian football clubs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Association of Hannoverscher Fußball-Vereine (VHFV) was a football association in the greater Hanover area.

history

The VHFV was founded on May 14, 1900 together with the sports pioneer Ferdinand Wilhelm Fricke . Since Hanover has always been a rugby stronghold, it can be assumed that - apart from occasional football matches - mainly rugby matches were held. As a result of this development, it was renamed the Association of Northwest German Rugby Clubs on January 27, 1906.

Of the eleven founding clubs, seven were named: Fußsportverein von 1897 Hannover, Hannoverscher Football Club, FV 1897 Linden, SV Eintracht v. 1898 eV Hanover, German FV 1878 Hanover, FC Hanover 1896 and SV Kleeblatt 1896 Hanover.

According to the first edition of the DFB yearbook, these 14 clubs belonged to it in 1904 (in order of membership numbers): German Football Club 1878 Hanover, Sports Club Elite, Foot Sports Club from 1897 Hanover, Sports Club Mercur, Sports Club Favorit, Teutonia Football Club, Hanoverian Football Club “Sport “, Football club Germania, football club Schwalbe Döhren (wrongly in the source: Wöhren ), football club from 1897 in Linden, Hanover sports club Normannia, sports club Viktoria in Linden, sports club Sparta, football club Grasdorf. At that time 4 of them were outside the city of Hanover: Döhren was incorporated in 1907, Linden (including Ricklingen) not until 1920. Grasdorf is now part of Laatzen. According to their names, 4 clubs had their headquarters in Hanover. Another 6 club names are given without a location, which suggests that they were in Hanover.

The German rugby clubs had been amalgamated in the German Rugby Football Association since November 4, 1900, which at the time was a cooperative member of the German Football Association .
