The Association of Debating Clubs at Universities e. V. (VDCH) is the umbrella organization founded in 2001 for university debating clubs in countries and regions in Europe where German is spoken. The VDCH has over 70 associations and around 4,000 members from Germany , Austria , Switzerland , Italy , Sweden , England , France and the Netherlands . The association is based in Berlin-Charlottenburg .

activities

The VDCH supports its member associations and new initiatives to found debating clubs and is committed to the recognition of debating in general. He is the organizer of a series of debating tournaments, the Campus Debates (until 2018: Zeit Debatten). The association is the mediator between the debating clubs, the public, sponsors and supporters.

The president of the association represents them at the European European Universities Debating Championship and the international World Universities Debating Championship .

Together with the German Debating Society , the VDCH is the publisher of eighth minute , a multilingual magazine for the European debating scene.

Tournaments

In cooperation with various partners, the association organizes each year nationwide tournaments in debating , one of which as a highlight of the season, the German-language Debating is (DDM). As part of the campus debates , the VDCH also awards the regional debating championships.

The VDCH tournaments are almost exclusively organized in the formats Open Parliamentary Debate and British Parliamentary Style . The format of the DDM alternates between the two every year. The regional championships are based on this rhythm.
