The Association of the Mineral Paint Industry e. V., short VdMi e. V., is an independent professional association of the German chemical industry and represents the interests of manufacturers of pigments and fillers in Germany. In addition, VdMi e. V. also organizes manufacturers of masterbatches (Masterbatch Association), photocatalytically active products (Association for Applied Photocatalysis, FAP), food additives (dyes for food), school and artist paints and products for enamel, glass and ceramics. The association has around 70 members.

history

The association is one of the founding departments of the "Association for the Protection of the Interests of the Chemical Industry" in 1877, today's "Association of the Chemical Industry". It is based in Frankfurt am Main. While in 1877 manufacturers of mineral paints were mainly members of the association, today the spectrum ranges from inorganic and organic pigments to masterbatches and artist paints. In its current legal form as the Association of the Mineral Paint Industry e. V. the association has existed since January 1st, 1951.

The Masterbatch Association was founded in 1998 as a new specialist department of the VdMi.

In 2009, the Association of the Printing Ink Industry, which until then was also a specialist department of the VdMi, was spun off and merged with the paint manufacturers to form the Association of the German Paint and Printing Ink Industry (VDL).

On the initiative of the titanium dioxide manufacturer in the VdMi, the Association for Applied Photocatalysis was brought into being. The new VdMi department started work in 2011.

Industry sectors

Different industries are organized in the association for historical reasons. These are the manufacturers of inorganic and organic pigments, of products for the ceramic industry, of silicas that are used as light-colored reinforcing fillers, of carbon black and of food colors, as well as the processors of colorants. These include the manufacturers of masterbatches who have come together in the Masterbatch Association, as well as the manufacturers of artist and school paints. Both the manufacturers of photocatalysts and users from the building materials and coatings industry have joined forces in the Association for Applied Photocatalysis.

Association work

The association has the goal and the task of representing the ideal and economic interests of the industries affiliated to it. In particular, the specialist departments and their committees, such as B. the technical commissions, forums for dealing with industry-specific issues.

In detail, these are the subject areas
