The Association of Restorers eV (VDR), based in Bonn and Berlin , represents the professional interests of around 3000 restorers from all fields in Germany .

history

The association was created on February 3, 2001 through the merger of the following associations:

  • Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Restauratoren e. V. (CoR)
  • Professional association of state-certified restorers e. V. (BsgR)
  • Federal Association of German Diploma Restorers V. (bdr)
  • German Restorers Association V. (DRV)
  • German Association of Freelance Restorers V. (DVFR)
  • Restorers Association V. (RFV)
  • Restoration Association of Saxony V. (RVS)

tasks and goals

The main concerns of the association are the protection and proper preservation of art and cultural assets while respecting their material, art-historical and aesthetic importance.

The association members - freelancers - are committed to the common good and pursue overarching ethical goals, anchored in international regulations and charters such as the Charter of Venice (1964) and at ECCO, the European organization of conservators-restorers. The VDR is also the central point of contact for politics, science, teaching and the public in all questions of conservation and restoration.

Over the past few decades, the restoration profession has developed - nationally and internationally - into a scientific discipline with a solid university education that combines theory and practice. In terms of lifelong learning, the VDR offers numerous training opportunities.

In addition, the association has been organizing the annual European Restoration Day in Germany since 2018 .

The association promotes specialist and interdisciplinary networking among its members through specialist, interest and state groups. Regular meetings, excursions, seminars, workshops and conferences help to deepen one's own know-how and to cultivate the exchange. The VDR works with numerous partners and is involved internationally as part of the European restoration associations ECCO (European Confederation of Conservators-Restorers' Organizations). Since the restoration profession is classified as a liberal profession, the VDR is a member of the Federal Association of Liberal Professions (BFB) and the Institute for Liberal Professions Nuremberg (IFB).

membership

The association has around 3000 members, Sven Taubert has been the president since 2019, and Gisela Gulbins and Susanne Danter are vice-presidents.
