The Association of Church Employees (VkM) sees itself as a union for employees in the field of diaconal work in the Evangelical Church in Germany .

The VkM sees itself as a workers' association with trade union tasks. He becomes active in the church employee representatives and in the labor law commissions of the churches ( labor law of the churches ). The ver.di (health, social services, welfare and churches) and the Church and Diakonia trade union (GKD) are alternatives .

The SWR - Politmagazin Report Mainz reported on April 28th, 2008 how the Diakonische Werk replaces critical employee representatives in the labor law commissions, who oppose contract work and wage dumping, with compliant employee representatives from the Association of Church Employees.
