First aid book
The first aid measures performed in companies, authorities, schools and day-care centers are recorded in writing in a first aid book (coll. Also accident book ) . This serves as evidence that damage to health has occurred during an insured activity and is required in DGUV regulation 1, principles of prevention . The entry must be made regardless of the alleged severity of the violation.

- Place and time of the accident
- Name of the injured person
- the accident
- Type of injury
- Time of treatment of the injury
- The first aid measures carried out
- Name of the first aider
- Names of witnesses
The records must be kept for at least five years after the last entry. Since they contain personal data, they must not be made accessible to unauthorized persons.

In the event of accidents at work , the costs of treatment and rehabilitation measures are covered by the statutory accident insurance institutions ( commercial employers' liability insurance associations or public accident insurance institutions ). Accidents that have a disability of more than three days' absence must, by accident report will be displayed at the charge of the farm accident insurance institutions and the Authority for Occupational Safety. The accident report is used to document that the accident occurred during an insured activity. In the case of accidents or minor injuries that initially do not result in any loss of work or less than three days of absence, this proof is not provided. If long-term consequences occur due to an apparently minor injury, the entry in the first-aid book can provide evidence that it is an occupational accident. If the documentation is missing and no witnesses can be found, the accident insurance institution can refuse to cover the costs.
In addition, the first aid books can be used to identify the main areas of accidents in the company and to initiate preventive measures.
