Crime map
The term crime mapping (Engl. Crime mapping ) referred to in the criminology the compilation, presentation and analysis of crime patterns. The product of crime mapping is the crime map . The decisive factor here is the interaction between experts and systems from criminology and information technology .
technology
Geographic information systems are used to create crime maps . It must be taken into account here that geographic information systems do not carry out crime mapping, but are merely an important aid in crime mapping.
Application examples
It is conceivable, for example, to link crime scenes and perpetrators on a city map or map using geographical information and spatial-temporal coordinates. It is also possible to seamlessly show when and where a call was made and whether a certain mobile phone was activated in terms of time and location. Mapping can also be used to assign crime probabilities on a small scale. Model projects to such "Before agendas policing" ( English "Predictive Policing" ) are currently being conducted in major German cities. The topic was also prominently dealt with at the 18th European Police Congress.
