Merit Medal (Hanover)

The Merit Medal was donated in two classes by King Wilhelm IV of Hanover in 1831 and could be awarded to anyone for services to the fatherland.

The round medal , made of gold or silver , shows the donor's head turned to the left with the inscription WILHELM IV.KÖNIG 1831 . On the reverse, within a laurel wreath tied together at the bottom, the three-line inscription VERDIENST UMS VATERLAND .

The name and character of the honored holder was engraved on the edge of the medal .

The award was worn on the light blue ribbon of the Guelph Order on the left chest.
