Association of former home children

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The association of former children in care e. V. (abbreviation VEH ) is a self-help association for people who were previously housed in children's homes.

History and purpose of the association

The association of former children in care e. V. was founded on October 14, 2004 in Idstein am Taunus and entered in the register of associations in Aachen. The association mainly organizes people who lived in homes between 1945 and 1985.

The reason for the founding of the association was the injustice suffered by the children in the home and the massive human rights violations that children and adolescents experienced, especially between 1945 and 1975 in church and state orphanages. The association wants to clear up the injustice and make it known to the public as well as enable contact among those affected. He works to ensure that those affected receive compensation in the form of pensions, back wages and compensation.

The association has sent petitions to the German Bundestag since 2006 , in which it called for recognition and reparation in favor of the children in the home, improvements in the handling of home files and a reversal of the burden of proof when asserting claims for compensation.

Gathering of former home children in Berlin

The association was one of the organizers of a demonstration that took place on April 15, 2010 in Berlin.

Participation in the "Round Table Home Education in the 50s and 60s"

The association was able to send three members to the round table of home education in the 50s and 60s , but failed with its request to be represented there by lawyers, and could not enforce this in court. The association called for the establishment of a compensation fund of at least 25 billion euros.

The association reacted with criticism to the final report of the round table presented on December 13, 2010. The demands made in it are inadequate.
