Verena Lueken

Verena Lueken (born May 1955 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German journalist , film critic and writer .

Life

Lueken studied dance, sociology, German and film studies in Frankfurt, Philadelphia and New York. Since 1989 she has been working for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung as a film and literary critic, first as a freelancer and since 1992 as an editor. From 1995 to 2003 she reported for the FAZ as a cultural correspondent from New York. Since 2003 she has been working in the Frankfurt editorial office again. After several non-fiction books, Lueken published her first autobiographical novel in 2015 with Kiepenheuer & Witsch , which followed in 2018 with “Elswo”, also with Kiepenheuer and Witsch.

In 2016 Lueken took part in the BBC's vote for the 100 most important films of the 21st century and chose In the Mood for Love (2000) by Wong Kar-Wai as first place.
