Constitution of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The constitution of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus ( Turkish Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti Anayasası ) is the constitution of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), which is only recognized as a state by Turkey . The European Union regards this area as part of the Republic of Cyprus occupied by Turkish occupation forces .

With the ratification by referendum , the constitution drawn up by a Constituent Assembly ( Kurucu Meclis ) entered into force on May 5, 1985. A majority of 70.6 was achieved. The constitution of the TRNC is similar to the constitution of the Turkish Cypriot state from 1975, but contains several transitional provisions that regulate the structure of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
