The VERITAS Verlags- und Handelsges. mb H & Co OG is an Austrian school book publisher based in Linz . The product range includes school books, learning aids, learning software and an online learning portal.

history

The company was founded in 1945 by Karl Gruber - initially as a publishing house for religious small letters, and since 1949 there has also been a bookshop. In 1973 Veritas started its school book program : “Sachunterricht 3” was the first Veritas book in the Austrian school book campaign. In 1982 the publishing house became part of the Oberösterreichischer Landesverlag group of companies . In the 1990s, Veritas was the second largest school book publisher in Austria. In 1996 the publishing house was spun off from the Landesverlag group and has been part of the German Franz Cornelsen educational group ever since . From the beginning, Veritas also participated in other companies: in 2006 the Viennese publishers Oldenbourg and Verlag für Geschichte und Politik were taken over. The latest addition are titles from the Duden brand , which Veritas has been supporting in the Austrian school book campaign since February 2010.

Offer program

The program focus was initially on compulsory schooling . Veritas now offers a wide range of products for (almost) all subjects and school types. The “core subject” was German from the start. In 2009, for the first time, a dedicated online portal was developed for the successful series of German lessons. This online portal for teachers and students combines online German lessons, learning games and information about school books. In addition to the textbook program, Veritas also offers learning aids for the afternoon. The matched to the Austrian curriculum learning aid series go-around is available for the subjects German, English, Mathematics, French, Italian, Spanish and Latin.

Since 2016/17, the offer has been expanded to include e-books, which are made available on the scook.at platform .

Corporate structure

As a subsidiary of the Franz Cornelsen Education Group, the publishing house employs around 110 people (as of April 2019). The main location is at Hafenstrasse 2a, 4020 Linz. The publisher also has a location in Vienna - information center and publisher. The publishing program includes around 2,200 titles from in-house productions; a further 16,000 titles are listed in the retail program. The publishing house is managed by Nikolaus Donner. In 2015 a turnover of 25.8 million euros was achieved.
