Verizon Wireless ( VZW ) is one of the largest US wireless operators with 91.2 million customers, competing with AT&T Wireless , T-Mobile US and US Cellular . Verizon Wireless was founded as a joint venture between the US telecommunications company Verizon and the global wireless communications company Vodafone . Vodafone held approximately 45 percent of the shares, Verizon the remaining 55. At the end of August 2013, Verizon announced the complete acquisition of Verizon Wireless for 130 billion US dollars .
The network technology used by Verizon Wireless is CDMA2000 , a standard based on Code Division Multiple Access . Verizon has the largest LTE network in the US, reaching 98% of the population.
