Sales description
The sales description of a foodstuff was loud § 4 Food Labeling Ordinance (LMKV) in the legislation specified name. With the entry into force of the Food Information Regulation , the term was replaced by the name of the food .
It can be
- the legally established designation or
- the usual designation according to the general public opinion (some of which are described in the German Food Book) or
- a description of the food and, if necessary, its use, which enables the consumer to identify the type of food and to distinguish it from confusable products.

Sales names are z. B.
- Type of sugar
- fruit juice
- milk chocolate
- Couverture (a counterexample would be fat glaze containing cocoa)
- milk
- Cheese (for a counterexample, see artificial cheese ), see in particular cheese ordinance
