Traffic model (communications engineering)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Traffic models are defined in the traffic theory of communications technology . They define what should happen if the supply exceeds the output y at time  t . The alternatives are the loss system and the waiting system .

News sources, for example telephone connections, are connected to switching equipment . Since only a certain proportion of the subscribers maintain a connection at the same time, the message traffic is concentrated, switched, transmitted and expanded again there. The concentration of traffic simultaneously lowers the costs for the switching systems and the transmission channels , a certain average offer is taken as a basis and the system's performance is geared towards this.

Traffic models can also be defined for other situations in which supply and service compete.
