The Transfiguration Cathedral ( Russian Преображенский собор ) is a Russian Orthodox cathedral in the city of Berdsk in Russia . The cathedral was built from 1992 to 1998. It is the second cathedral in the Russian Orthodox Diocese of Novosibirsk.

history

Construction of the Transfiguration Cathedral began in 1992. The foundation stone was laid on July 7, 1992 by Archbishop Tichon. The cathedral was designed by the Russian architect Pyotr Tschernobrovzewy, who also designed the St. Nikolai chapel in Novosibirsk .

In August 1998 nine bells cast in Kamensk-Uralsky were installed in the church tower of the cathedral. In the summer of 2004 a large gate was built at the entrance to the cathedral grounds.

On September 5th of the same year the main altar was consecrated by Archbishop Tichon and he placed a relic of the holy martyr Akaki Athos in it.

In 2005, the Archbishop of Novosibirsk announced the construction of a new Sunday school near the Transfiguration Cathedral.
