Transfiguration Cathedral (Pereslavl-Zalessky)
The Transfiguration Cathedral in Pereslavl-Zalessky ( Russian : Спасо-Преображенский собор; Spaso-Preobrazhenski Sobor) is a Russian Orthodox church in the Russian city of Pereslavl-Zalessky . It is one of the White Monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal . The designation as a cathedral is traced back to the connection with the royal court.
history
The church was built from 1152 to 1157 under Yuri Dolgoruki and is one of the oldest buildings in Russia after the buildings in Novgorod and the Boris and Gleb Church in Kidekscha ( Suzdal ). The construction was completed under his son Andrei Bogoljubski .
investment
The cathedral is a cross- domed church with a high drum and a large dome. The stepped portals without columns are traced back to Romanesque models. The almost square complex has three apses with serrated and arched friezes on consoles.
