history

The Emil Roth publishing house in Stuttgart only existed for a short time. It was founded on March 1, 1875 and dissolved again in 1877. In the short period of its existence it produced modeling bows, children's theater bows, soldier and genre bows as well as dress-up dolls. The images were printed as pen and chalk lithographs with black paint from stone. Then they were colored with the help of stencils. The drawings that the publisher used were vivid and rich in detail, and great care was taken with the coloring. At least 22 titles on 31 sheets, each in the format 36 by 43 cm, were printed, including numerous architectural sheets. According to the numbering of the sheets, there should actually have been more motifs on the market.

In 1877 the Schreiber-Verlag took over both the stones and the stencils from the Emil Roth Verlag and continued to use them - they formed the basis of Schreiber's picture sheet production. The Rothsche bow production is now in the Folklore Department of the Württemberg State Museum in Stuttgart .
