history

The Handwerk und Technik publishing house was founded in 1949 by Felix Büchner. The program started with seven licensed titles from the Bernhard Friedrich Voigt Verlag in Leipzig. These were technical books and manuscripts for vocational training, including “The Art of Violin Making”, a classic that can still be found in the publisher's range today. Further titles were taken under license and made the Verlag Handwerk und Technik one of the early providers of media for vocational schools in Germany.

In 1958, a subsidiary supplemented the specialist offer: Verlag Dr. Felix Büchner placed the emphasis on household titles. Later also works for the areas of health and care were added, which were published jointly with Handwerk und Technik.

After the founder's death in 1983, the publishing houses remained in the possession of the Büchner family. In 1992 the family company took over the Stuttgart vocational school publisher Holland + Josenhans. Today all titles of the publishing group are brought together in a general directory.
