Vernon Taylor (born November 9, 1937 in Sandy Spring , Maryland ) is an American rockabilly singer.

Life

Childhood and youth

Vernon Taylor was born the youngest child of a farming family. From an early age he was influenced by music, in the family and by records. In his youth, country stars like Roy Acuff , Ernest Tubb and Hank Williams as well as the "singing cowboys" Gene Autry and Roy Rogers were his idols. In the early 1950s, the hillbilly boogie and early rockabilly were other influences for Taylor.

Career

He then founded The Nighthawks with two friends . With this band he performed at local events and on the radio. After playing regularly with Curley Smith, he also performed with Jimmy Dean , a well-known country singer. Through appearances on a well-known Saturday night show, Taylor and his band received a record deal with Dot Records. There he released his first single in 1957 with I've Got The Blues on the A-side and Losing Game on the B-side, which, however, received little attention.

While continuing to perform regularly, he moved to Sun Records in Memphis , Tennessee . There he released two more records, which were also unsuccessful. After his failures as a musician, he decided to give up his music career in favor of civil work. Taylor only performed on weekends.

In 1989 he performed at a Charlie Feathers concert. Through this appearance he became known in the rockabilly fan base in the course of the rockabilly revival. In 1995 he released his first CD on the German label Eagle Records. Vernon Taylor still performs today.
