The first broadcast of the first season was from September 22, 2004 to May 10, 2005 to be seen on the US television channel UPN . The German broadcaster ZDF broadcast the German-language first broadcast from April 1 to November 1, 2006.

On the first day of her third year of high school at Neptune High, Veronica Mars frees Wallace Fennel, who is new to the school. It was taped to the school's flagpole in revenge for calling the police when two bikers shoplifted. Celeste Kane hires Keith Mars to shadow her husband Jake, and Veronica photographs him in a shabby motel with an unrecognizable woman. Flashbacks show the murder of Veronica's best friend, Lilly Kane, and Veronica's rape at a 09 party.

When Weevil is accused of credit card fraud, Veronica tries to prove his innocence. At school, she has to attend Ms. Dents journalism class and finds that she has a flat tire. As a result, her ex-boyfriend Duncan Kane drives her to the place they are supposed to write an article about. Troy Vandegraff comes to town and enrolls at Neptune High. Veronica finds out that a speed camera photo proves Lilly was still alive hours after she officially died. Paris Hilton has a guest appearance as Caitlin Ford, Logan Echoll's friend.

A student hires Veronica to find his father, who was believed to be dead. Veronica and Troy get closer. Keith meets up with Veronica's school psychologist, Rebecca James, and Veronica begins looking for her mother. Duncan temporarily stops his antidepressants and hallucinates about his dead sister Lilly, who tells him her secret is being revealed.

Veronica helps Wallace's new girlfriend, Georgia, after she was duped out of $ 6,000 by a group of college students. Veronica and her friends can break through the students' security system and force them to return the money in exchange for hijacked data. For the inauguration of Lilly's fountain at Neptune High, Logan puts together a reminder video for Lilly, which should be serious, but thanks to Veronica also contains authentic scenes from Lilly.

Veronica finds a series of photos in her mother's safe deposit box, which show Veronica in the focus of a telescopic sight. Lianne, Veronica's mother, calls Veronica and says she is fine and everything will make sense in due course.

Logan urges Duncan to run as class representative against Wanda Varner, who is campaigning against the 09er. Duncan wins, but Veronica suspects the election has been rigged. Logan's father, movie star Aaron Echolls, catches his son organizing a bumfight . Abel Koontz fires his public defender and Veronica discovers that Lilly's shoes, which were in her room after her death, were found on Abel's houseboat.

Flashbacks show Veronica trying to figure out why Duncan left her.

Keith helps Mrs. Fennel, who disapproves of Wallace's proximity to Veronica.

Veronica is investigating on her own against Clarence Wiedman, head of Kane Security, who took the pictures of her and sent them to her mother. Veronica does a DNA test to prove that Keith is indeed her biological father, but destroys the results without looking at it.

A student falls into a coma after drinking too much alcohol in a bar with a fake ID. Veronica is wrongly accused of forging his ID and has been suspended from school. She suspects a secret society at Neptune High to be behind the forged ID cards. Keith is supposed to find out for Aaron who is giving him bad press. Weevil admits during a grief management session that he secretly met with Lilly, but she returned to Logan. Aaron threatens Lynn with a divorce. Your car is later found abandoned on a bridge.

Veronica and Logan begin to meet secretly.

Season 4

The fourth season, designed as a miniseries, appeared on the streaming service Hulu and was published there in one fell swoop on July 19, 2019. The action takes place about five years after the 2014 film . Veronica now runs the detective agency Mars Investigations together with her father and investigates a series of bombings that occur during spring break in Neptune.
