The association Assembly of an Honorable Merchant in Hamburg e. V. ( VEEK ) is an institution of commercial self-administration in Hamburg .

According to its own information, it is the largest business ethical association in Germany with a tradition since 1517. It currently has around 1,050 personal members who are entrepreneurs or senior employees of Hamburg's economy. The members of the assembly would like to live the principles of the honorable businessman in Hamburg companies and spread them in business and society.

history

From a meeting of Flanders, England- and Schonenfahrer , ancient societies of the Hamburg merchants who drove with these areas of trade, the merger was The Common Merchant (gemeene Kopmann) of 1517 by the Honorable Council of the Hanseatic City won the right to a board of to elect six clerks as representatives. The association should “promote everything necessary for the merchant's benefit and prevent disadvantages”. In 1523 the lobby group had its own statute. The Hamburg Stock Exchange was established in 1558 on the initiative of Kopmann , and soon afterwards the association organized its own messenger and postal service.

In the 17th century the concept of the gemeenen Kopmann disappeared . In 1665 the merchants who acted at sea in Hamburg , who were later referred to as An Honorable Merchant , elected the Commerz deputation , which consisted of seven men. In 1710 these Commerz deputies received seats and voting rights in the inherited Hamburg citizenship . The honorable businessman was henceforth the election body of Commerz Deputation , from 1867, the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce emerged. The right to vote was not lost until 1933.
