The shipping Walz GmbH is a mail order company based in Bad Waldsee . The company has been indirectly owned by Apollo Global Management since 2015 .

history

The mail order company Walz was founded in 1952 by Alfons Walz . He started shipping a baby kit and published the first catalog under the name baby-walz . In 1967 the range was expanded to include the catalog Die modern Hausfrau , before the first baby-walz branch was opened at the company's headquarters in Bad Waldsee two years later . Over the years, further baby-walz branches were opened in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. From the year 2000 the development towards e-commerce began with web shops of the brands baby-walz and Die modern Hausfrau . As the third sales brand of the Walz Group, walzvital has been on the market since 2005, also with an online shop and catalog.

The Walz Group has been part of Alteri Investors, an offshoot of Apollo Global Management, since March 2015. This was preceded by the sale of the mail order company Walz GmbH in 1988 to the mail order company Neckermann , which later became part of the KarstadtQuelle Group and its successor Arcandor . After Arcandor went bankrupt, the company was taken over by the Carlyle Group owned Puccini Group , after which the company was again sold to Alteri Investors .

Today, in addition to Germany, the Walz Group is also active in Switzerland, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. On average, around 20,000 parcels are sent from the logistics center in Bad Waldsee every day. The baby-walz branch portfolio now includes around 30 stores.
