Versmannhaus

The Versmann-Haus in Hamburg was built from 1910 to 1912 according to plans by Johann Gottlieb Rambatz and Wilhelm Jollasse as an office building with shops, a café and a restaurant.

The corner building leads through the overbuilding of the Kniehauer twiete seamlessly from the edge development of the Mönckebergstrasse, which was newly laid out at the time, to the side edge of the Rathausmarkt .

The sandstone facade was originally crowned with Neo-Renaissance gables and dormers. After the war damage, the upper floors were repaired several times without regard to the original shape. A design framework has been established since 1987 that tries to ensure the diversity of facade structures when modernizing.

The name is reminiscent of Mayor Johannes Versmann (1820–1899).
