Vidsel test site
The test site Vidsel (also Vidsel Test Range , formerly North European Aerospace Test Range (NEAT)) is a test site in northern Sweden for air and space travel . The area includes the Vidsel rocket test site and the European Space and Sounding Rocket Range (Esrange). If necessary, the air space in between can be closed, creating a very large contiguous test area with a maximum extension of over 350 km. The test area will then cover a total of around 3,300 km² of blocked ground area and around 24,000 km³ of blocked air space.
All military aircraft of the Swedish military ( Saab Draken , Saab 37 Viggen , Saab 39 Gripen ) were tested on this basis. But foreign manufacturers also use the facilities, for example the cold tests for the military transporter Transall C-160 and for the Eurofighter fighter aircraft took place in Vidsel. Flight tests with the Phoenix space glider were also carried out on the test site .
