Treaty of Arras (1414)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the secret Treaty of Arras (1414) , King Henry V of England and Duke John Fearless of Burgundy came to an understanding in May 1414 .

In this treaty, the English king won a supporter for his claim to the French throne. Johann Ohnefurcht, in turn, was able to secure support for his political ideas at the head of the Bourguignons , who were in conflict with the Armagnacs over who was responsible for the mentally ill King Charles VI. should take over the reign of France. The Armagnacs had prevailed in Paris in 1413.

The treaty became significant after the Battle of Azincourt , when the English king could now rely on Burgundian support.
