Treaty of Auxerre

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Treaty of Auxerre of August 22, 1412 was an agreement between the Armagnacs and Bourguignons , in which the Parlement , the Chambre des Comptes and the University of Paris had participated.

With this treaty it was believed that the end of the civil war between the Armagnacs and Bourguignons had been reached and the intervention of the English repulsed. The relief at the signing of the contract was so great that the bells were rung all over France.

The central provision was that both parties renounce alliances with foreign powers. For several months, both the Armagnacs and the Bourguignons had negotiated with the British - the Treaty of Bourges , the Jean de Berry and Charles of Orleans had been completed, led in September to complications when the Duke of Clarence , second son of Henry IV ., landed with an army in the Cotentin , and his withdrawal had to be bought by the Treaty of Buzançais .
