Directory of German foundations
The Directory of German Foundations is a nationwide register of foundations that has been published by the Federal Association of German Foundations since 1991. The publication is the most comprehensive current register of foundations in Germany, but is only based on the information provided by the participating foundations. From the state side, foundation registers only exist at the state level and only for the legal form of a legally competent foundation under civil law . The 9th edition of the Directory of German Foundations comprises around 26,000 entries from foundations of all legal forms in three volumes.
Database
The directory of German foundations is based on a nationwide full survey of all legal forms carried out by the Federal Association of German Foundations every three years . Participation in the survey is voluntary. The participating foundations decide for themselves whether and which information is published in the directory of German foundations (e.g. purpose, seat, assets, contact options, scope of action).
Online search
In addition to the Directory of German Foundations, the Federal Association of German Foundations operates a free search engine for foundations on the Internet using the same database. This includes around 10,000 foundations in Germany that have their own website and have approved publication. Publication of the data is free of charge for foundations and independent of membership in the Federal Association of German Foundations.
