Vespel is a registered trademark of the DuPont de Nemours company , which uses them for plastics that are designed for extreme thermal , electrical and mechanical loads . The material referred to in the following as Vespel is the polyimide that was first sold under this name.

The material can be used in a temperature range between absolute zero and, for a short time, well over 400 ° C. Vespel has no melting point and no detectable glass transition temperature .

By adding graphite or polytetrafluoroethylene , for example , the properties of Vespel can be changed in a targeted manner.
