Vesperthe (desert)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vesperthe is a deserted area in the Fürstenberg district of Bad Wünnenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia . The settlement was on the site of today's Fürstenberg cemetery.

history

The place was first mentioned in the 11th century. The Cistercian monastery in Paderborn , founded in 1229, owned it there.

In 1391 Vesperthe was destroyed in the Bengler feud with other places in the vicinity. In the 15th century, the desert became the property of the Lords of Westphalia . In the years that followed, the ruined church was rebuilt and used as a church building by the Fürstenberg citizens from 1658 to 1758. After the construction of the parish church of St. Mary, the Vesperther church fell into disrepair. In 1847 a chapel was built in its place.
